New wing in the east

Genève-Cointrin Airport is increasingly becoming relevant as the number of destinations and passengers continues to increase. This is due to the popular short-haul flights of low-cost providers, on the one hand, and the growth in international organisations in Geneva, such as the WHO, on the other. Since 2011, the airport has been preparing its infrastructure for further growth in various projects. In 2014 the Federal Office for the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications gave the go-ahead for the construction of a new east wing.

Made of steel and glass

The Aile Est is the contemporary terminal for long-haul flights at Geneva Airport. The open, light-flooded new building replaces the previous temporary building erected in 1975. The new terminal will eventually have direct parking spaces for six aircraft - previously this was only possible for half the aircraft, and bus gates were built for the other three. The glass and steel construction, which is inclined by 26 degrees to the asphalt, is 520 metres long and 20 metres wide.
