Freddy Mercury Hotel
Montreux
A hotel for a rock legend
“The Freddie Mercury”, an impressive new hotel, is located at platform 1 of Montreux railway station. It is named after the lead singer from the legendary rock band Queen, which had strong associations with the town of Montreux.
The Freddie Mercury is run by the Swiss Education Group, Switzerland’s leading provider of hospitality education. The four-star private hotel therefore fulfils a dual mandate, serving as a residence for hotel management students on the one hand and as a traditional hotel complex on the other. The five-storey building boasts 89 hotel rooms, a 120-seater restaurant, four public spaces and seven training rooms. The Freddie Mercury offers a modern and youthful vibe with a touch of rock ’n’ roll, blending vibrant colours with contemporary interiors and sleek furnishings.
Keeping your feet warm in the winter but a cool head in the summer
Given the hotel’s close proximity to the railway line and the limited space available for setting up a construction site right in the heart of Montreux, the property developer HRS had a whole host of restrictions to deal with. Some of the work therefore had to be carried out overnight.
The building is equipped with gas heating, a dual flow ventilation system and photovoltaic and solar thermal panels on the roof. In the summer, the classrooms and library are cooled by the same coils used to provide underfloor heating. This “switching mechanism” makes it possible to heat the floor in the winter and cool it in the summer.
