Homage to a legend

Vevey is the setting of the life of the world famous comedian Charles Chaplin. Besides his grave, frescoes and a statue, the former residence and present-day museum Chaplin's World is located there. Close by is the four-star hotel Modern Times, named after one of the artist's most successful films, idyllically situated between the lake and the Lavaux wine region.

Built in 2016, the hotel is entirely dedicated to the artist and impresses with its unique architecture and stylish design. The Z-shaped building extends over 240 metres and is 14 metres high. The pre-stressed concrete construction paired with the anodised aluminium façade and the screen-printed panes in warm colours of pastel, bronze and anthracite give the building a contemporary aura.

Unique pieces lend atmosphere

The contemporary interior creates a warm atmosphere with unusual objects associated with Chaplin, such as videos and pictures. A cogwheel sculpture depicting the time machine from the film "Modern Times" welcomes guests at the entrance and reminds them of the famous artist. The ground floor with a 3.5-metre high ceiling and panorama windows consists of an open lobby, six ultra-modern and modular seminar rooms, a restaurant and a patio. In the Mediterranean garden, there is a large pond, lined with old olive trees, aromatic plants and a raised stone wall. On the three upper floors, the hotel has 138 comfortable rooms - from studios to junior suites. In the interior, great emphasis has been placed on luxurious floors of solid oak and natural stone. In the basement there is a fitness room and an underground car park.

Mastering challenges

HRS completed the shell work within six months - at a tremendous pace. Particularly challenging were the metal ceilings, which required time-consuming preparation, and the installation of a rainwater recovery system. This supplies water to the huge garden and the public service facilities. Apart from the mandate, HRS also coordinated and selected the complex interior fittings
