On the fast track to building permit and ground-breaking ceremony
HRS developed the new centre of excellence for double-decker trains for Stadler Rail on the 65,000 sqm Altfield site in St Margrethen. Within 18 months, a re-zoning plan, a partial road plan, the design plan and the legally binding building permit were all in place, overarching planning issues such as mobility, traffic and disruptions were resolved through efficient interaction between the federal government, the canton and the planners.
The new building, directly connected to the platforms, comprises offices, production and storage areas with some 49,000 sqm and a volume of 631,000 sqm. The development and planning were carried out according to the design-to-cost principle in order to guarantee a tailor-made project at a fixed price. The ground-breaking ceremony took place in the summer of 2018 and the first halls will be put into operation by the end of 2019.
