A place for innovative companies

In Kleinhüningen, in the north-western tip of the City of Basel, a mood of optimism has prevailed for years. The construction of the (A3) Nordtangente urban motorway and the planned extension of the tram network to Weil am Rhein (D) have contributed significantly to the dynamism of the location. HRS played a decisive role in the development of the area near the border triangle. We were responsible for the project management and the construction of the Stücki shopping centre and hotel besides the Stücki Business Park, which stands on the foundations of a former dye works demolished in1985.

The building structure was designed to be multifunctional. All prerequisites for the construction of laboratories, workshops and production facilities were thus created as well as office premises. Not only young companies in the life sciences industry have settled in the Stücki Business Park; it is also home to a leading international company for implants in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The building also houses the Basel branch of HRS Real Estate AG and HRS Renovation AG.

Worth gold, cold from heat

The Stücki shopping centre and Stücki Business Park are supplied with CO₂-neutral energy from their own central office. The concept was developed in cooperation with the regional energy supplier, Industrielle Werke Basel (IWB). The solution is called Stücki IWB Powerbox. Its core is an absorption chiller that converts heat energy into cold. The plant uses the waste heat from surrounding industrial plants for heating in winter and cooling in summer. In 2011 the Swiss Federal Department of Energy awarded the Stücki IWB Powerbox the Watt d’Or prize for the best performance in the energy sector.
