The Circle at Zurich Airport
Zurich Airport
Airport of the future
The Circle is located between the airport right-of-way and the undeveloped Butzenbüel, which is an open space zone. It occupies a crescent-shaped area that wraps around the western and southern base of this hill.
The innovative concept turns the airport into a small town with a central function - with a direct connection to Zurich, which can be reached in 12 minutes. The development houses an attractive mix of different uses that create synergies among themselves: two Hyatt Group hotels with a convention center, international brands and companies, a medical center of excellence, efficiently usable office space and a variety of other offerings from the fields of art, culture, gastronomy, entertainment, education and retail.
Innovative and with vision
Architect Riken Yamamoto drew inspiration for the design from Zurich's Niederdörfli - with its narrow streets. There are narrow pathways between the buildings that illustrate this. In addition, the unique crescent shape of the complex is the perfect link between the park and the airport, while also reflecting the terminal opposite.
Sustainability with the highest accolade
The Circle has been certified by Leadership Energy and Environmental Design Standard to the highest standard, LEED® PLATINUM. The U.S. Green Building Council developed this and established seven criteria: sustainable building, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, interior quality, location and development, and innovation. In addition, the complex was certified to Minergie® - the largest building ever certified by Minergie®. HRS is proud of these certifications.
