An Arena to cover a multitude of needs

Opened in 2015, the Tissot Arena in Biel is the only stadium in Switzerland that combines ice hockey, football and curling under one roof. At a length of 380 meters, a width of 120 meters and a height of 28 meters, the arena has impressive dimensions. The football stadium offers 5,100 covered seats and can be extended to 10,000. The ice hockey stadium has 7,000 seats. The Tissot Arena can be quickly converted into a spacious event hall for concerts, exhibitions, congresses or trade fairs. In addition to the stadiums, the Galerie-Arena offers a platform for shopping experiences, with a constant link to the sports facilities.

Interesting is the different choice of material for the façades of the sports arenas. In order to ensure ventilation of the natural grass pitch, the façade of the football stadium consists mainly of hot-dip galvanized gratings, whereas the ice rink is predominantly clad in stainless steel and aluminium rolled sheet sections.
Architecturally, the Tissot Arena acts as a structuring generator for the development of the area to the east of the city. Opposite the western city boundary, the public sports complex redefines the urban expansion in the east and creates space for densification between these two spaces.

As reliable as Swiss clockwork

Realising an area of this size in just two and a half years is a true tour-de-force performance. HRS was only able to achieve this ambitious goal thanks to a wealth of experience and tightly managed construction management and coordination. At times, 600 people worked simultaneously on the construction site. The situation was made more difficult by the fact that the use of some areas was only precisely defined during the actual construction period.
