New perspective for patients and Sion

Over the years, the Clinique romande de réadaptation (CRR) in the French-speaking part of Switzerland has become the leading address for rehabilitation and occupational reintegration. The occupancy rate has always been 100%, resulting in long waiting periods for patients. With this in mind, it was necessary to increase the care capacity so that the clinic could continue to fully meet the expectations of referring partners in the future. With the realisation of the extension, space was created for a further 40 beds. In addition to the inpatient rehabilitation measures, extra space was also created for the other areas of activity of the rehabilitation clinic (training, research, sports medicine) and for the EPF Lausanne in Valais.

Functional and contemporary throughout

The layout of the rooms was designed in such a way that patients feel safe and comfortable, while at the same time facilitating the staff's tasks. The choice of materials and colours and the provision of natural light aim to create a warm and comfortable place that promotes physical and psychological rehabilitation. The new building is contemporary, functional and flexible. Its layout and design allow responding to a sharp increase in patient numbers and severe cases in the near future. Particular attention was paid to the integration of the new building into the existing complex in order to create harmony between the two buildings.
The three-month complex preparatory phase was highly demanding on the general contractor HRS. The technical infrastructure (gas, water, fibre optics, Swisscom, etc.) of the city of Sion, located under the extension, deserves special mention. This had to be relocated, newly installed and put back into operation as quickly as possible.
